Bore Hole Inspection System

Manufacturers of turned parts, milled parts or plastic parts need a 100% quality control for their production. This control process is usually not adapted adequately to the production chain. Especially the testing of threads in bore holes, its forming, completeness or detection of foreign particles is a challenge for the industry. With the PENTACON bore hole inspection system (BLI) you now are able to test and evaluate bore holes on parameters like threads, forming or foreign particles like chips. The parts-to-be-tested will be placed at a distance of around 10 mm in front of the bore hole inspection system and tested optically. Unlike similar industrial solutions we are testing without immersion  since borescopes are far too susceptible and slow.

The bore hole inspection system is designed as a modular unit which can be seamlessly integrated to existing testing stations or be used as a stand-alone unit. The parts-to-be-tested on bore holes or blind holes are tested and evaluated automatically according to preset parameters. The test is attributive because of the lens used.

Mode of operation

The core of each system is a special developed ento-centric lens, artificial lighting and a industrial digital camera. The main advantages of an ento-centric lens is the reproduction of objects in close distance. Objects in a larger distance appear to be smaller, whereas closer objects appear larger.

Depending on the shape of the turned or milled part the distance between lens and part-to-be-tested has to be adapted accordingly. The bore hole inspection system operates with either incident light or transmitted light. The incident light is attached to the system along the optical axis.

At the end of an ento-centric lens is an industrial digital camera attached which is hooked up to a computer. Using a software with preset parameters the images will be processed and analyzed afterward. The analysis can be conducted by either an operator at a preset manual testing station or fully-automated as a modular unit in a production chain. The most advanced bore hole inspection system features a handling that feeds and discharges the part-to-be-tested while a modified testing software tests and evaluates internal threads, chip remnants cracks, missing parts or foreign particles. Connected to a sorting logic, faulty parts get separated automatically.

High-End Bore Hole Inspection

The high-end bore hole inspection system features a special designed ento-centric lens with a greater focus range and an adapted lighting solution. This model captures images and lights the object within the same optical axis. The diameter-depth ratio is 1:3 allowing the capturing of several parameters at the same time. The post-processing is done afterward on a PC while using various image libraries such as the  Matrox Imaging Library.

SMART Bore Hole Inspection System

The SMART bore hole inspection system is designed in a very compact form - ideal for an incorporation in automated production lines. Core element of the SMART BLI are the Datalogic Smartsensor P17, a wide-angle lens and a ring-light for a controlled lighting of the bore hole or cavity. Depending on the testing requirements a mandatory minimum distance might be useful. Also the usage of back lighting with very small holes enhances the testing.
